When things don't go according to plan: Jackpine Joe on its 22nd mission run into technical problems short before reaching its target. And from this time on the various stations are marked on this map. They are explained in detail below the map.
Numbers on the map above (brief explanation)
Jackpine Joe took off from Pantanella (near Foggia in South Italy) together with aprox 400 bombers of the 15th AF. The target was the aircraft factory in Allach just outside of Munich. About 5 minutes before reaching its Initial Point (I.P.) problems arising.
The map area from Friedrichshafen up to Ossingen is expanded for action number 6 the landing zone of the aircrew on the next page.

Navigator J. Johnson bails out without orders. All the maps were lost. Smoke from left wing.

on its way to Switzerland Jackpine Joe was attacked by German fighters. Six Me-109 approaching. Just in time the requested escort fighters arrived at the scene. One of the Me-109 was shut down and the others scurried away.

too close to Friedrichshafen, heavy Flak (flying at only 9000ft):
loosing propeller No.2, right rudder got riddled, third engine (No.4?) gets a bad hit.
